President of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Daroo Khan Achakzai and former CE of TDAP S M Muneer have expressed their serious concern over the large heap of garbage accumulated across Karachi causing unhygienic and unhealthy condition for the people of Karachi.
They said that the recent monsoon rains have exposed the negligence of poor administration of various departments who have completely failed in providing relief to the people of Metropolitan city. 90 percent of the city's main roads and lanes are ruined completely.
They also expressed their concern over the regular traffic jam in different parts of Karachi particularly at Jam Sadiq Ali Flyover at Korangi due to monsoon rains. The prevailing condition at Jam Sadiq flyover has badly affected industrial activities in Korangi industrial area.
They further said that the industrial areas especially Korangi, Federal B Area, New Karachi, SITE area, and Landhi are badly affected.
Due to non prearrangements for monsoon rains the industrial activities have almost come to halt in these areas. Electricity load shedding and frequent power breakdowns have also effected the industrial production which will ultimately affect our export orders.
They also criticised the local administration on its complete failure for the overflow of sewerage on the main roads of main bazaars, trade centres and business centres. Giving an overview of different areas like Numaish, Ancholi, Marton Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Korangi, they said that these main roads are overflowing with sewerage water and the residents of these areas are suffering from different diseases.
President of Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI), Danish Khan said that despite being the largest city, commercial and economic hub of Pakistan, Karachi has been deprived of due attention from the concerned authorities and administration.
Voicing concern over havoc created in Karachi after moderate rainfall in the beginning of this week, he urged Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah to overhaul city's infrastructure on war footings. Construction of flyovers on the main entry points of Korangi industrial area was also demanded.
He said that due to mismanagement in the city during the spell of rainfall economy and business activities have suffered a lot.
He said that it is a great matter of concern that after moderate rainfall infrastructure of Karachi collapsed and citizens suffered hours long traffic jams. "This unveiled the shortcomings of infrastructure and administrative flaws," he added.
He urged CM Sindh to take immediate notice of the situation and issue directive to resolve the concerning issues.
Danish Khan said that being the largest industrial area of the country, we pay hundreds of millions of Rupees to national exchequer on daily basis, and we even don't get the basic facilities to keep running industrial production in return. He said that three main entry point of KIA: EBM Causeway, Jam Sadiq Bridge and Main Korangi Road passing through the Malir riverbed were either chalked with the traffic or affected by rainwater. "In case, the rain cycle continued in coming years, this area would cut off from the city," he added.
He said that Jam Sadiq Bridge has become volatile and could cause a disaster.
